The first outlaw motorcycle clubs, like the well known Hells Angels, were WW2 veterans who decorated their denim and leather jackets with their war trophees like iron crosses, skull badges, swastika's etc. Nowadays a skull or an iron cross logo on a bikers jacket is very common.
- The Poker Run is associated with the Red Devils whose members started it in 2002, seven years before the club was formed in 2009. St John Ambulance refused further donations from the ride a few.
- Hells Angels took off from the Belgrove Tavern for their Sun City Poker Run yesterday afternoon. The poker run began around 12.30pm, with around 40 bikes heading towards Lake Rotoiti. The group included the notorious Hells Angels, local riders and patched members of gangs including the Head Hunters, and Southern Vikings.
It is being reported that the leader of the procession refused to obey police and proceed through a green light. This caused a traffic jam. The biker was issued a ticket for the offense. | Traditionally, the leader of the pack would be the president of the local chapter and that is Damiano Dipopolo. One hopes he pays his ticket promptly. |
Dozens of Hells Angels and associates were pulled over by police on Kelowna's Glenmore Road Saturday, not long after the riders left the Kelowna Hells Angel's clubhouse on their annual Poker Run. Cops were apparently confused over the route. 'An RCMP traffic unit initiated a traffic stop with the lead bikers to address the situation.' |
The Hells Angels are in town.
Dozens of patched members of the notorious motorbike gang were seen driving through Tahunanui this afternoon, heading towards Richmond.
The members are in town for the Sun City Poker Run, which is being held on Saturday.
The poker run is being organised by feeder gang Prospects 81 Nelson and will start from the Belgrove Tavern at around noon.
Police say their presence isn’t welcome. “Gangs are the main driver of methamphetamine trade in this country and we do not want that here,” says area commander Mat Arnold-Kelly.
“I have seen first-hand the devastation methamphetamine wreaks on people’s lives and we all have to commit to disrupting this destructive drug trade.”
He says police will keep an extra close eye on them over the weekend.
“We want to send a clear message to gangs that the people of Nelson will not tolerate anti-social behaviour and drugs in our community.”
